PHRM 544: SKILLS LAB Integrated Pharmacotherapy VII - VIII: Concepts and Patient Care Skills This course is a companion course to the Integrated Pharmacotherapy Courses VII - VIII (PHRM 541 and 542) with a focus on students applying the foundational and clinical knowledge from these courses in hands-on activities and active-learning exercises in order to develop skills required for practice in clinical settings. Specifically, students will actively practice and participate in exercises designed to develop skills and competence in patient assessment (including triage and referral), formulation of viable patient-specific treatment recommendations and patient counseling techniques regarding pharmacotherapy and prevention. Further students will become familiar with NY prescription laws and regulations and drug schedules. Specifically, patient case presentations and simulations based on real-life clinical cases involving diseases and disorders of the pulmonary system, eye, ear, nose and throat as well as hematological disorders, prevalent oncologic and autoimmune diseases will be used to develop students’ critical thinking skills with respect to patient presentation, documentation of patient history, patient assessment, formulation of treatment recommendation and medication monitoring for efficacy and toxicity. Additionally, students will participate in an IPE activity/simulation. (
