PHRM 542: Integrated Pharmacotherapy VIII: Hematology, Oncology, and Autoimmune Diseases This is the eighth in a sequence of nine Integrated Pharmacotherapy modules with a focus on hematological disorders, prevalent oncologic and autoimmune diseases. Basic biochemical, microbiological, anatomical and physiological, pharmacological, medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetic, clinical chemistry and pharmacotherapeutic principles are integrated and applied to presentation and management of: (1) hematologic disorders such as anemias, select coagulation disorders and sickle cell disease; (2) oncologic disorders such as breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers, acute and chronic leukemia, and lymphoma; (3) supportive therapy for oncologic care for tumor lysis syndrome, blood dyscrasias, gastrointestinal toxicities, bone health and oncologic emergencies; (4) major autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematous and rheumatoid arthritis as well as treatment in solid organ transplant. Biological and physicochemical principles related to drug delivery and dosage forms used in the treatment of hematological disorders, prevalent oncologic and autoimmune diseases are covered as well as preparation, methods and routes of administration. Examples and active case-based learning are used to assist students’ building skills to solve problems associated with the treatment and management of hematologic, oncologic, and autoimmune-related disease states.
