PHRM 524: Integrated Pharmacotherapy VI: Infectious Disease This is the sixth in a sequence of nine Integrated Pharmacotherapy modules with a focus on infectious diseases. Basic biochemical, microbiological, anatomical and physiological, pharmacological, medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetic, clinical chemistry and pharmacotherapeutic principles are integrated and applied to presentation and management of infectious and fungal diseases such as respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, urinary tract infections, central nervous system infections, endocarditis, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS tuberculosis, and fungal infections. As well emphasis is placed on pathogen identification and antibiotic selection to achieve pathogen coverage. Biological and physicochemical principles related to drug delivery and dosage forms used in the treatment of infectious disease are covered as well as preparation methods and routes of administration. Examples and active case-based learning are used to assist students building skills to solve problems associated with the treatment and management of infectious diseases. (
