PHRM 520: Integrated Pharmacotherapy II: Gastrointestinal Disease This is the second in a sequence of nine Integrated Pharmacotherapy modules with a focus on the gastrointestinal system and its diseases and disorders. Basic biochemical, anatomical and physiological, pharmacological, medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetic, clinical chemistry and pharmacotherapeutic principles are integrated and applied to presentation and management of gastrointestinal conditions and diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome , nausea and vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea, constipation, nutritional deficiencies, cirrhosis, drug induced gastrointestinal disease, pancreatitis, anemia, and viral hepatitis. Biological and physicochemical principles related to drug delivery and dosage forms used in the treatment of these disorders are covered as well as preparation methods and routes of administration. Examples and active case-based learning are used to assist students building skills to solve problems associated with the treatment and management of gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.(
