PHRM 514: Pharmaceutical Calculations I The ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations is essential to providing safe patient care in virtually all pharmacy practice settings. Basic concepts and skills required to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations required in pharmaceutical dosing and compounding are introduced in this first of two pharmaceutical calculations courses. Application of key mathematical principles to pharmaceutical calculations encountered in pharmacy practice is the primary focus of this course. Examples of such applications include the correct interpretation of prescription and medication administration orders, pharmaceutical measurements, mathematical manipulations involved in converting and preparing desired concentrations and strengths of electrolyte and isotonic solutions. Students will work/self-learn in small groups on representative calculation problems with adequate opportunity to receive assistance from faculty. (
