PHRM 505: SKILLS LAB - Integrated Pharmacotherapy I: Concepts and Patient Care Skills This course is a companion course to the Foundations Courses (PHRM 501, 502, and 503) and Integrated Pharmacotherapy I (PHRM 504) with a focus on students applying the foundational and clinical knowledge from these courses in hands-on activities and active-learning exercises in order to develop skills required for practice in clinical settings with an emphasis on those skills typically encountered in community practice. Specifically, utilizing the NY prescription laws, regulations and drug schedules, students will actively practice and participate in exercises designed to develop skills in patient assessment (including triage and referral), patient counseling techniques regarding pharmacotherapy and ability to correctly analyze and evaluate prescriptions, including composing a prescription label. Students will be exposed to methods and formats used for patient and medication history documentation. Finally, patient case presentations based on self-care clinical cases will be used to develop students’ critical thinking skills with respect to patient presentation, documentation of patient history, patient assessment, formulation of treatment recommendations and medication monitoring for efficacy and toxicity. Students will also complete the American Pharmacists Association’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program . (
