Under what conditions can we permissibly harm others in self- and other-defense? Does (harmful) punishment after the fact follow a similar or different logic? And what difference does it make whether the harm resulted from action or omission or whether it was intended or merely foreseen? This course introduces students to recent non-consequentialist accounts within analytical philosophy.
