Philosophy of Education

Catalog description

This course will cover a range of philosophical issues that have to do with education. What is the aim of education? Is it to make good citizens? Good human beings? Good workers? What is the best method of education? And finally, what obligations does the state have with regard to educating its citizens? Students will read many of the classic texts in the history of the philosophy of education. They will also read and discuss the contemporary literature on current debates about primary and secondary schooling and higher ed.
