Philosophy of Mind

Catalog description

This course examines the basics of modern philosophy of mind. Topics may include: theories of cognition, memory, perception, thought, and learning; the computational theory of mind and related theories of implementation including neural implementation, connectionism, and artificial intelligence; mental representation and semantics, including concepts and categorization; and finally, consciousness and its discontents, points of view, and the self. Some metaphysical issues such as freewill, realism, and anti-realism are also discussed. Prerequisites: two courses in philosophy.
