This course will provide an introduction to moral and political philosophy by focusing on questions that arise from our roles as political and economic agents, as employers, workers, consumers, and citizens. The questions we will ask include: Are differences in income and wealth ever justified? If so, when are they justified, exactly? What, if anything, justifies private property? What role should the government have in regulating the economy? Do businesses have any social responsibilities beyond making profits? Are employees forced to work for their employers? And what makes work under capitalism unsatisfying or unfulfilling?
