Public administrators need strong analytical skills as well as practical professional ones in order to be effective in their jobs. While the other courses in Binghamton University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program primarily focus on teaching students the former set of skills, this class is instead intended to assist students develop the skills in the latter area they will need to be successful as future public service leaders. This course emphasizes both traditional professional skills like those related to networking and conflict resolution as well as skills that are increasingly viewed as essential in contemporary public service settings such as an understanding of how to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. Throughout the semester, guest speakers will be invited to speak to the class about various topics relevant to the course. Students will also have several opportunities to participate in small- and large group discussions in order to encourage them to reflect on the topics being covered in this course. Offered:
