Catalog description

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of American government and public administration, including essential concepts of American governance and bureaucracy. We will explore five essential aspects of U.S. government: 1) the formation of American government, covering the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, 2) the separation of powers between the three branches of government (the Congress, the Presidency, and the Judiciary); 3) federalism (the division of power between the national and state government); 4) intergovernmental relations (the relationships between the different levels of government); and 5) bureaucracy, or how public administrators implement policy within the American system. Offered: fall and spring.
