Catalog description

This problem-based laboratory-based course allows for the development of therapeutic skills to assist clients with adaptive methods, compensatory strategies to facilitate completion of usual and customary daily life tasks; and informed by the emerging technologies and knowledge for best practice. The course will review the arena of low technology to high technology adaptive techniques including the use of 3D printers and software-based processes as well as provision of changes in health care delivery models including Telehealth and gain an understanding of the strategies to enrich client’s capacity to engage in activity and participation. Using the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) as an overarching framework, the student will learn how the activity configuration, observations and OT assessments yield information about the occupational needs across the levels of function, activity and participation. Using the activity configuration, the student will learn to how to design occupation-based strategies and develop the therapeutic skills required to provide assistive devices to enhance client’s safe and effective performance in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) tasks.
