This is a social science course about rural residence, health, and social behavior. Students will learn to analyze and identify what it means to live in a rural area, how this may influence social behavior, and affect the individual's chance for health and survival. This knowledge is critical for effective healthcare practice in rural communities, as well as for rural health policy formation and reform. This course contextualizes the rural/urban dichotomy relative to industrialization, post-industrialization, and the health and mortality transition. 3 cr. Fall semesters.
