This course builds upon the knowledge the learner gained in NURS 585, Medical Cannabis: Skills for Healthcare Providers. This course will support learners in growing their knowledge, attitudes, and skills in caring for populations who use medical cannabis. The learners practice coaching and motivational interviewing skills to ensure that medical cannabis patient goals are considered and patient-centered care is enacted. By evaluating and synthesizing recent research, the learner develops an evidence-based practice in cannabis care. The learner supports patients’ self-titration of cannabis and use of integrative modalities to upregulate the human endocannabinoid system in a simulated setting. Learners demonstrate proficiency in motivational interviewing and coaching techniques to support patient-centered cannabis care with rural and vulnerable populations. Reflection on their own endocannabinoid system health allows learners to develop proficiency in role-modeling holistic health approaches to potentiate the health of the endocannabinoid system. Examining state and federal cannabis policies helps learners sharpen their advocacy skills and address social justice issues.
