Credits: 4 This foundational course introduces students to the multiple roles of the PMHNP. Competencies and scope of care of the PMHNP are addressed. Ethical and legal issues related to advanced practice psychiatric nursing are emphasized. Through class and clinical experiences, students acquire necessary methods and skills for completing comprehensive mental health assessments for culturally diverse individuals of all ages, as well as those needed for the basics of diagnosis, treatment planning, and health promotion. The clinical portion of this course requires approximately 8 hours per week for a total of 120 hours in the practice setting. Prerequisite: NURS 502 & NURS 518. Corequisite: NURS 519. (Didactic
