Credits: 4 Chronic Illnesses This course focuses on the assessment and management of complex, serious and persistent psychiatric and co-occurring disorders across the lifespan. The role of the FPMH NP in assessing, diagnosing and managing chronic conditions such as psychotic disorders, mood disorders, substance dependence, cognitive disorders, HIV and AIDS, and co-occurring physical and psychiatric disorders in diverse individuals is emphasized. Leadership and advocacy roles of the FPMH NP as an agent of healthcare policy change are stressed. The clinical portion of this course requires approximately 8 hours per week for a total of 120 hours in the practice setting. Prerequisite: NURS 562 & NURS 565. (Didactic
