Catalog description

This is the second of three role courses enabling students to socialize into the role of nurse practitioner. Class content addresses nursing strategies and management for family dynamics and health as they pertain to aging and contracting families. Building on the direct care provider, counselor, and educator roles studies in the second semester; students incorporate into the nurse practitioner role the functions of consultant and researcher. Specific individual health needs as well as the evaluation and management of common acute and chronic health problems of aging and contracting families are discussed. Supervised clinical practice to assist students in applying theory and evidence based practice to the nursing management of these families is emphasized. Prerequisite: NURS 521 & NURS 553 (FNP) or NURS 511 & NURS 514 (AG). Corequisite: NURS 522 (FNP) or NURS 512 (AG).
