NURS 554Family/Adult-Gero NP Role II

This is the second of three role courses enabling students to socialize into the role of nurse practitioner. Class content addresses nursing strategies and management for family dynamics and health as they pertain to aging and contracting families. Building on the roles of primary care provider, counselor, and educator, students in the second semester will incorporate additional functions of consultant and researcher into the nurse practitioner role. Specific individual health needs as well as the evaluation and management of common acute and chronic health problems of aging and contracting families are applied. Supervised clinical practice to assist students in applying theory and evidence based practice to the nursing management of these families is emphasized. Prerequisite: NURS 521 & NURS 553 (FNP) or NURS 511 & NURS 514 (AG). Corequisite: NURS 522 (FNP) or NURS 512 (AG). 4 credits (Didactic 2 credits, Practicum 2 credits. - 120 hours clinical). Fall semesters only. **Please note this course has a mandatory liability and insurance fee of $12 and a $176 simulation fee. The liability and insurance fee is charged only once a semester, even if you are enrolled in multiple classes that carry the same fee(s)** *Focused Acture Exam Competency will be held Wednesday November 12th*
