Functional Role II, CNS

Catalog description

Nursing 551 is the second in a three semester sequence of courses designed to prepare the graduate nursing student for the clinical specialist role (CNS) in adult-gerontology health nursing in diverse health care settings. This course specifically concentrates on the scope and responsibilities inherent in the direct care provider, consultant and systems of leadership sub-roles. Students will examine theoretical knowledge, apply clinical judgment and develop practice skills needed to improve patient outcomes and improve health care delivery from a consultant and leadership perspective Students will practice in the CNS role in a setting appropriate for their area of interest. Clinical practice opportunities allow for application of knowledge and socialization to these roles. The clinical portion of this course requires 4 hours per week for a total of 60 hours in the practice setting. Prerequisite: NURS 511 & NURS 550 (AG), Corequisite: NURS 512.
