Builds on a knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics and family health. Emphasizes nursing care of communities and populations at the local and regional level. Local, state and national standards are used to develop a role definition of advanced community health nursing practice focused on community health needs and resources, identify groups and aggregates at risk, and determine community health priorities and community health and nursing interventions at the primary, secondary or tertiary levels of prevention. Special emphasis on the internal and external forces that influence levels of health experienced by aggregates and groups within the community system, as well as factors that influence the community's process of adaptation. Further content focuses on environmental, social, cultural, economic, political and legal factors affecting community health promotion and maintenance, health services and population-based community health nursing practice. The section of N.542 is restricted to D69 MS CH PCNP; D96 Post MS CH PCNP CERT; D97 MS CH EDUC Prerequisites: NURS 540 (3 cr),and NURS 541, and NURS 515 (NP only) or N.556 (EDU). **Please note this course has a mandatory liability and insurance fee of $12.
