Credits: 3 This course is the first in the sequence of Community Health Practice specialty courses. This course is designed to place the nature and scope of community health nursing within the framework of nursing theory, nursing process, family theory, and public health principles. Models of health and health behavior are discussed. The family as a client is the focus of this course. Families are assessed for health problems, stressors and strengths. Management of families with multiple health problems is the focus of clinical practice. Intervention strategies discussed in the course are utilized while conducting family visits, evaluating the family plan of care in relation to the standards for advanced clinical practice. Rural and urban issues are addressed. The clinical portion of this course requires 4 hours per week for a total of 60 hours in the practice setting.
