Catalog description

This course explores the pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease relevant to advanced nursing practice. A systems approach is used to examine alterations in the structure and function of the human body at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and body systems levels that are associated with diseases/conditions commonly encountered in primary care. Emphasis is placed on understanding the etiology of altered health states, correlating clinical and laboratory manifestations to underlying physiologic processes and pathophysiologic mechanisms, and developing advanced diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills. Consideration is also given to the psychological, and social demographics of health that influence the health of individuals, gender, families, and underserved/underrepresented populations.
