Adult-Gero NP Role I

Credits: 4 This is the first of three role courses enabling students to socialize into the role of the Adult-Gerontology nurse practitioner. Class content will address the direct care provider role of the nurse practitioner in relation to the evaluation and management of health and illness care of the young adult (including late adolescents and emancipated minors), adults, and older adults (including young-old, and old-old adults). Health education methodologies and counseling strategies pertinent to primary care practice will be explored and intervention skills developed. Application of nursing theory in supervised clinical practice will be included and emphasized. The focus of the adult-gerontology primary care NP is to provide patient-centered quality care to the adult and older adult population. The adult-gerontology primary care NP applies evidence in practice designed to improve quality of care and health outcomes. The clinical portion of this course requires approximately 8 hours per week for a total of 120 hours in the practice setting. Students may use the same site for both the role and clinical courses.
