Adult-Gerontological Nurs II

Credits: 3 This course is designed to develop the advanced practice nursing student’s knowledge, clinical assessment skill and ability to process information critical to the holistic primary care management of individuals with chronic illness across the age continuum from young adulthood to old age. Management is coordinated with client support from families, communities, and health care systems. Potential impacts of socio-cultural, ethnic and religious considerations on client ability to manage chronic illness are examined from a life course perspective. Theories of chronic illness are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on common geriatric syndromes and the utilization of comprehensive geriatric assessment and interdisciplinary management as it relates to the older adult client’s functional status. Current multidisciplinary research findings are applied in both classroom and clinical experiences. The clinical portion of this course requires approximately 4 hours per week for a total of 60 hours in the practice setting. Students may use the same site for both the role and clinical courses.
