Catalog description

This course prepares the learner to assess the biopsychosocial health status of clients by obtaining a comprehensive health history and performing a thorough physical examination. Using a developmental approach, content will be presented that helps the learner differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. Methods of documentation emphasizing an advanced practice nursing problem-oriented approach will be discussed. The assumption is made that the learner possesses interviewing skills and knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. A weekly laboratory skills lab provides an environment to develop advanced assessment skills through practice with colleagues, faculty and/or standardized patients. Prerequisite: RN licensure.
