N.502 This course prepares the learner to assess the biopsychosocial health status of clients by obtaining a comprehensive health history and performing a thorough physical examination. Using a developmental approach, content will be presented that helps the learner differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. Methods of documentation emphasizing a nursing problem-oriented approach will be discussed. The assumption is made that the learner possesses interviewing skills and knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. The laboratory component stresses the development of necessary assessment skills through practice with colleagues and/or clients. NOTE: NURS 502 is a On-line Hybrid course. The lecture section is on-line, the clinical lab sections are on campus. NURS 502 also requires that students complete (3) one-hour on-campus sessions to practice on a simulated breast. Due to the number of students and limited simulators available to complete the activity, students are scheduled for this activity outside of scheduled lab hours, but does count for 3 hours of lab experience. All efforts will be made to schedule on a day the student is already on campus. **Please note this course has a mandatory liability and insurance fee of $12 and a $176 simulation fee. The liability and insurance fee is charged only once a semester, even if you are enrolled in multiple classes that carry the same fee(s)** Comprehensive Health History Competency Simulation dates: 9/28/26 and 9/29/26. Physical Examination Competency Simulation dates: 11/9/26, 11/10/26, 11/16/26 and 11/17/26. Midterm Exam date/time: 10/05/26, 8:30 am - 10:30 am.
