Wound Care in Nursing

Catalog description
This elective nursing course will give the nursing student/RN a foundation in fundamental concepts of types of wounds; surgical, trauma, venous, arterial, neuropathic, and pressure ulcer. Emphasis will be on assessment of wounds and treatment options available. Advantages/disadvantages of each type of wound care product will be discussed. Factors that affect the skin’s ability to heal as well as age related changes will be discussed. Case studies will be presented after lecture content and opportunities for discussion will be provided. Students will lead the class in a presentation on selected wound care topics and provide a forum for sharing ideas. Pre-requisite: NURS 321 Format: Asynchronous online
