NURS 314 Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (Lab section) Description: The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This AEMT course is a comprehensive program consisting of both classroom (didactic), skills lab, clinical (hospital observation) and field (ambulance observation) components. The course adheres to the 2015 National EMS Education Standards that define the minimal entry-level educational competencies for each level of EMS training, and is designed to give aspiring AEMTs the knowledge, skills and affect necessary to serve as an entry-level AEMT in the field. Successful completion of this course will allow students to pursue NYS certification as an AEMT.
