Clinical Externship

Catalog description
This program provides nursing students with summer learning experiences and employment in a hospital setting where they can apply theoretical, conceptual and skill learning in a structured environment under the guidance of a registered nurse preceptor or preceptors. The program is designed for the motivated post second-semester traditional junior student who can be expected to increase clinical skills and confidence in working with patients, family and other healthcare personnel. This course may be taken for a letter grade and count toward degree requirements as nursing elective credit or taken pass/fail for general elective credit. Students who apply for this externship must be enrolled in an accredited, traditional, four-year baccalaureate nursing program and in good standing at full-time status with plans to continue their education as a senior in the succeeding fall semester.
