Harpur Jazz Ensemble performed for the first time in May 1969 and has appeared in concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Clark Terry, Slam Stewart, Marvin Stamm, Manny Albam, Don Sebesky, Slide Hampton, Phil Woods, Marion McPartland, Urbie Green, Nick Brignola, Frank Wess, Jimmy Owens, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Doug Sertl, John LaBarbera, Duffy Jackson,Ingrid Jensen, Rufus Reid, Houston Person et al. Emphasis is on learning big-band repertoire; ensemble has a busy performance schedule, concluding with a formal concert featuring a famous guest soloist or conductor. May be taken for credit by registering for MUSP 264A (freshmen), MUSP 364A (sophomores and juniors) or MUSP 464A (seniors). Prerequisites: Open to all students by audition, held during first scheduled class. No pre-registration.
