Catalog description

A skill-based course designed to examine and develop the physical gestures of conducting instrumental and vocal ensembles and familiarize the student with musical terms important to the understanding and interpretation of music for performing ensembles. Lectures, in-class conducting, and small group lessons introduce the traditional conducting gestures and ensemble communication skills. Techniques of conducting with and without a baton are discussed and compared. Prerequisites: Students must have completed MUS 217 and MUS 218 and demonstrate competent music reading skills. Ability to play an instrument and/or sing is expected. Every fall.
