Advanced seminar in orchestral and instrumental techniques used by composers of the past three hundred years. Through analysis of representative scores and creative projects, students will develop a working knowledge of string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments - and of how these sounds are combined in a large-ensemble context. Coursework will include analysis and listening assignments, arrangements and/or compositions, and occasional attendance at orchestral rehearsals/workshops. Open to both student performers and composers. Prerequisite: MUS 217.
