Musicology Research Seminar

Catalog description

In this course, intended for junior and senior music majors, students learn the foundations of academic music research from a broad ethno/musicological perspective. Part of class meetings will be dedicated to learning the origins of the field of academic music study, focused on foundational readings in the field along with contemporary, interdisciplinary approaches to scholarship and music research from historical musicology, ethnomusicology, and contemporary/popular music studies. A portion of content covered will also include guest lectures and discussion from other Binghamton music faculty on their area of expertise and approach to scholarship. Restriction: Junior and Senior BA & BMus Performance majors and Music Minors only. Prerequisite: MUS 301, one Composition Course. Co-requisite: MUS 302. Exceptions to prerequisites made at instructor’s discretion. Offered regularly in fall.
