Catalog description

This is the second of three courses dedicated to the study of harmonic, melodic, and formal structures in common-practice tonal music. We expand our understanding of harmony by exploring diatonic and chromatic chord progressions, engage techniques of reduction and embellishment in order to move from the structural background into the musical foreground, and analyze smaller components of musical form. Prerequisite: MUS 215. Corequisite: Students enrolled in MUS 217 must enroll in MUS 218 the same semester. Every spring.
