Strategic Technology Management examines how organizations drive technological change, make strategic information systems decisions, organize digital innovation, and derive value from information systems. The course follows a managerial progression from the emerging digital environment to IS strategy, IS capability building, IS ecosystems, IT investment and value capture, digital transformation and new business models, and IS risks and governance. Students will analyze how digital technologies including AI, data analytics, and platforms reshape competitive dynamics and create new strategic opportunities. They will also learn how firms translate these opportunities into business value through aligned investments, technology-enabled capabilities, and cross-ecosystem collaboration. The course develops both strategic and foundational technical skills framed within organizational contexts. Students will further examine the governance challenges of digital transformation, including responsible technology management, IT security risk, regulatory compliance, and data privacy. Through case studies and applied projects, students will develop the ability to evaluate technology-driven opportunities and risks and communicate strategic recommendations to business audiences. No prior technical background is required. MIS 311 is a prerequisite
