In this course, students acquire the ability to recognize the whole range of grammatical usage while discussing subjects and style of literary texts. By learning the principles of literary creation in the different genres, students will be able to read, understand, and analyze works of prose, poetry, drama, and essay, with a minimum of lexical, cultural, and historical aids. Students will apply their general writing skills to literary genres and topics, with emphasis on clarity of thinking as the means leading to accuracy of expression. PREREQUISITE: SPAN 251 or equivalent. Required for the major.
