Catalog description

Introduction to the principles of database design and management. Topics include data modeling using entity-relationship and relational models, relational database design techniques, and query languages for database access including SQL. Furthermore, core topics regarding database management concepts systems, such as query optimization, transaction management, and concurrency control , are included. These concepts and methodologies support large-scale data management used in modern computing applications, including data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning systems. Prerequisite: INFO 501 and INFO 502, either or both may be taken concurrently. Typically offered at least once every academic year.
