Catalog description
This course explores physiology and nutrition through the lifespan from development to older adulthood, focusing on healthy aging. Emphasis will be on exploring the aging process throughout the lifespan of the various body systems and how nutrition plays a vital role in the prevention, treatment, or progression of chronological aging. In addition, the course will explore various pathophysiological conditions that typically arise with age and how genetic and external factors affect these conditions. The course will also address external factors such as food security, social disparities, and cultural/ethnic differences related to aging. The focus will be on providing a clinical background regarding assessment and decision-making regarding nutritional support. The course will examine the physiological changes that occur with aging and the most common clinical conditions associated with a given physiological system. Course fee applies.
