Catalog description
Enlightens students about the value of swimming as a lifetime fitness activity. Emphasis is on swimming laps and learning to get the maximum benefit from efforts. Specific areas covered are physiological principles, proper warm-ups, how to circle swim, turning, and monitoring a workout via heart rate and/or the pace clock. Some work on stroke technique, as needed. Proficiency in crawl stroke is required. Substantial portion of class time is spent swimming laps for endurance. Students should have the skills and endurance for lap swimming. HWS activity courses have strict attendance policies as physical participation in class is a major part of the course. Course fee applies. Refer to Schedule of Classes.
