Catalog description

Business and Human Rights explores the complex intersection between corporate activities and human rights. Students examine case studies, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations to understand how businesses impact human rights globally. Issues may include labor rights, sustainability, supply chains, and corporate accountability (particularly due diligence and complaint mechanisms). Through critical analyses and discussions, students learn to navigate the challenges of balancing profit motives with ethical principles, developing strategies for promoting corporate social responsibility and accountability in policy and practice. This course equips students with knowledge and skills to address human rights challenges within the private sector, fostering socially responsible leadership. Prerequisite: a core course in human rights. Junior or senior standing only. Offered once a year.
