US Immigration & Citizenship

Catalog description

This course investigates United States immigration and citizenship (c. 1750-present). It looks at policies, laws, and cultures associated with citizenship, race, gender, and ethnicity in the US, how these notions have transformed over time, and how they have affected access to wealth, education, and status in order to explore the complicated, haphazard, and often-fraught experience of immigrants within the US. Major issues engaged include European, LatinX, Asian, and African immigration to the US, Native-American experiences, issues of citizenship, racism, ethnicity, inclusion and exclusion, and assimilation and integration with a focus on immigrant voices and experiences. Restricted to students enrolled in the RN-BS Online Nursing Program. Offered regularly.
