HIST 486A - Technology and Modern Society Professor Fa-ti Fan Fall 2026 Course Description: Technology plays a central role in modern society. We are dependent on digital devices, we cannot go anywhere without a car, we spend too much time on social media, we don't know what to do with artificial intelligence, and some of us probably dream of space travel. This seminar examines the impact of technology on modern society and the construction of technology in social contexts. Topics may include biotechnology, gender and technology, technology and democracy, technology and modern warfare, and artificial intelligence.
