Latin American Immigration

Catalog description

The seminar begins with discussions of collective readings on Latin American and Caribbean migration across the Americas, with particular emphasis on immigration to the continental U.S. We study the experiences of immigrants and migrants as well history of borders, laws, politics, and discourses around immigration from the early 1900s to the present. Throughout, we consider race, gender, class, and ethnicity. Students write brief response papers on class materials while developing individual research projects on topics of their own choosing. The last part of the semester focuses on drafting, presenting, discussing, and revising student research papers. Prerequisite: junior or senior status.
