Catalog description

Cities in early modern Europe (ca. 1500-1800) were raucous, festive, dynamic places, places. This course examines cities in early modern Europe as sites of political, cultural, intellectual, and religious significance, as nodes of commercial exchange and social foment, and as hubs of increasingly global exchange. Readings include survey works, scholarly articles, and primary sources. Offered every 6-8 semesters.
