Catalog description

This course introduces students to the history of Europe during the seventeenth century by framing key developments and events within the context of the Thirty Years’ War. Topics include war and its effects upon communities, the relationship between soldiers and citizens, the emergence of the early-modern fiscal-military state, the growth of European colonial systems and their impact on European economies and societies. Readings include a survey, scholarly articles, and primary sources. Offered once every 6-8 semesters.
