Ending Mass Incarceration

Catalog description

This class explores the history of mass incarceration, the long-term struggle against it, and contemporary issues and debates within anti-mass incarceration movements, utilizing academic literature, film, audio material, primary documents, and activists/organizations (through guest lectures, etc). The course has a special focus on current movements and organizations rooted in New York State working to dismantle the carceral state. We will explore these organization’s ideology, history, tactics, and strategies along with their critiques and partnerships with others. This course is focused on practical knowledge development.
