Catalog description

Critical evaluation of global inequalities commonly identified as social class, race/culture/ethnicity, religion, gender/sex, citizenship, etc. within countries and between countries, and within the broader context of accumulation of wealth and misery on a world scale, particularly in the last 40 years. Examination of how unequal populations are created, shaped, measured, and directed, and-for the most exploited global majorities-subject to massive urban poverty, discrimination, persecution, and being most negatively affected by structural debt, austerity programs, persecution, malnutrition, pollution and environmental racism, climate change, etc., all due to the fusion of capitalism, present-day empire-colonialism, racism, and sexual domination. Principal (although not the only) example to be discussed: Puerto Rico. Offered: Semester varies.
