The Study of Human Change

Catalog description

This course provides first and second year students with early exposure to the department of human development at Binghamton University - a department concerned with the ways in which large-scale questions of social justice intersect with local communities and individual lives. The course briefly introduces students to human development faculty members; human and social transformation focused research. In addition, students will learn of struggles around the world to address social problems such as environmental justice, disparities in access to public goods (including education and health care), discrimination based on social categories such as race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and economic inequality. Students will encounter a range of human rights abuses and examine some of the historical foundations of current structural inequalities globally and in the U.S. context. The only grading option for this course is CCPA Standard Letter Grade. Offered: spring and fall.
