Catalog description
Examines topics in moral, legal, and political philosophy for post-conflict democracies. Topics include: balancing the need for criminal justice for perpetrators of mass atrocities with the need for stability and peace for fragile democracies; balancing the process of democratization with the requirements of international criminal and human rights law; the normative and political foundations of international law; truth and reconciliation commissions and their moral, political, and legal status; reparations programs; memorials, monuments and the politics of memory in post-conflict societies. Cross-listed with 458L and PHIL 580D. Offered annually.
