Animals and Other Lives

Catalog description

This class explores the role of animals, plants, and other forms of non-human life in German literature from 1800 to the present. We will sample a variety of genres and writers from key epochs in the German tradition, including Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, and contemporary fiction, accompanied by selections from philosophy and environmental thought. Course content highlights the four basic areas of German language proficiency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing). Taught in German. Offered every other year. Prerequisite: GERM 204.
