Generating observational data from the physical examination of bedrock in outcrop or in subsurface core is a fundamental skill required for geologists across a wide range of job sectors. These data are fundamental to accurately interpreting Earth's history and resolving stratigraphic or structural problems related to mapping or characterizing natural resources, in addition to providing the physical stratigraphic context for any collected data. The natural laboratory of bedrock exposures around Binghamton provides students with a diverse suite of opportunities to observe and interpret in-situ bedrock and practice data collection, analysis, and presentation of field-based research. Prerequisites: Completion or concurrent enrollment in any 300-level course in the Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Science departments. Offered in Fall only. 4 credits. Course fee applies, refer to the schedule of classes.
